Fall is finally here, and I welcome it with open arms!
I love fall. There’s something about flannel, boots, pumpkin spice, and all things basic that make me want to jump up and down in a leaf pile. I’m aware that there are people who don’t think as highly of the season. However, I like to avoid that kind of negativity in my life. See yourself to the door, pumpkin haters.
Just kidding! But for real, I’m so excited for October to be here and in full effect. Up here in the Midwest, we get a mix of rain and snow, and lots of cloud covered days with temperature in the fifties. It’s the perfect weather to sit inside with a big cup of coffee, my bullet journal, and Grey’s Anatomy, and pretend that I’m not an adult.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the fall?
October Doodle Challenge Theme and Rules
We are doing a Halloween Doodle Challenge for the month of October. The theme was voted for by my followers on Instagram. I give my followers the chance to vote on a theme near the end of each month. Once it’s voted in, I make the prompts and upload the challenge to my Instagram feed and blog [you’re here!]. So, if you would like to vote on next month’s theme, be sure to follow me on Instagram.
Also, if you would like to download a printable grid for your Halloween Doodle Challenge, I have a 2-page A5 PDF download in my VIP Resource Library. It’s free to use and comes with both a 30 and 31-day option. Sign up to gain access here.
Rules
There aren’t really any rules. But I get asked frequently how these doodle challenges work. People hear ‘challenge’ and think RULES. Well, my rules are simple and flexible. You do not have to follow any of these. They’re more like guidelines… wobbly guidelines.
- Starting on the 1st of the month, doodle to the corresponding prompt for the day. Do this to the best of your ability. Remember it’s not a contest and no one is judging you.
- Take a picture of your doodle and upload it to Instagram. Hashtag the photo with #oodlesofdoodleschallengeoct. Also, tag me, @the.petite.planner, so I can see your photo and leave you a comment.
- Search the hashtag on Instagram and leave some love for other people who are participating. Supporting others is highly encouraged.
- Complete one doodle a day for the entire month of October. When you’re all done, you’ll have a masterpiece of doodles.

Final Thoughts
I occasionally get asked what I use to create my doodles. I am not loyal to one specific pen or brand, although there are some that I am very fond of. Currently, I’m using Faber Castell Artist Pitt Pens in Super Fine, Fine
, and Medium
. I love the thick bold lines that the Fine and Medium point provide. And if you want to add small detail, then a superfine point will give you a lot more control and accuracy.
I’m still using the same notebook, a dotted A5 Leuchtturm1917. It’s a great multi-purpose notebook, and I’ve really become quite fond of them. I own three. But, that’s not to say I won’t be switching to a different notebook at the end of the year. Hello Pastel Scribbles that Matter Pro
!
And, lastly, I’ve been spending a lot of time on Skillshare. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a great website with thousands of video classes on hundreds of subjects. Of course, being the chronic doodlebug that I am, I have been deep in the drawing and lettering classes. You can try it free for 2 months when you use my link.
Share this post with your friends and invite them to join the Halloween Doodle Challenge this October. I look forward to seeing what you come up with this month.
