As a blogger and influencer (I guess), sometimes I want to put on this facade.
I have a perfect life with no worries, no stress, perfect hair, and absolutely no drawing mistakes.
FALSE! So false!
That would be a total facade because none of those are true.
Just like everyone else, I struggle. Some days are really good and life feels like it’s moving smoothly without flaw. And then, BAM, out of nowhere the stress and the struggle and the sadness for no apparent reason strike. Life isn’t linear.
One of my biggest blessing/curses is that I am a workaholic. I ALWAYS have a to-do list that Santa himself couldn’t read through in a night. And every time I cross something off, I add something new.
Sure, it helps with productivity and getting sh*t done. But, no matter how driven or determined I am, I always end up getting burnt out. Each month, I keep a stats page in my bullet journal, like the one below.
It’s where I track my health, mood, and productivity. And almost to a T, every single month I start out super strong. High mood, high health, high productivity. This means I’m working out daily, meal planning, working on my blog, sending emails, and taking pictures. It also means that I am often waking up at 5AM and going to bed at midnight.
And then, by the 13th all of those stats drop off the charts and I hit a low where I’m depressed, frustrated, eating all the cookies and chips in the house, and sleeping for 10 hours at night. It gets real ugly, real fast.
And, I have come to learn it to be true that this all results from a lack of self-care. Maybe you can relate here. Especially as women, we often find ourselves doing stuff and trying to make those around us happy and comfortable while still keeping up with our own tasks. But, in all of that, we also often forget to care for ourselves.
And it wasn’t until I had reached a low point where I felt like I was having an out of body experience while yelling at my children about something completely insignificant in a messy living room and then later crying alone in the bathroom that I realized I needed to change.
My children were being children, having fun and bickering over a toy. And because I was so worn down and stressed out from my never-ending to-do lists, I was reacting with undeserving rage. It’s not an excuse. In that moment, I was wrong. I had let it go to far. I brought this action upon myself.
Later, when I was sitting on a toilet seat crying for the fear that my children thought I was a monster that I realized I had forgotten about me. Even while I was blubbering on a toilet seat, all I could think about was my children’s’ well being and if my husband would think I was cruel when I told him how I had screamed at our children like a psycho in our living room.
It’s not uncommon for a mom. But, as moms, we also must realize how vital it is to take care of ourselves. For us, for our significant other, and for our children.
Now, you’ve heard it here and probably a hundred other place on the internet. Taking care of yourself comes first because you can’t take care of anyone else if you aren’t in a good place physically or emotionally.
Also, if you’re here, you probably have or at least know of the bullet journal system.
The bullet journal system is flexible and completely adaptable to all of your needs. You can add anything you like and leave out all the stuff that isn’t relevant.
It can be used simply as a planner, or it can be used for goal setting, accountability, a creative outlet, and many other things including self-care.
Because both subjects are so near and dear to my heart, this post has been a long time coming. In the following section, you will find 21 inspiring self-care bullet journal pages and ideas that you can add to your own journal. Whether you want to keep track of your self-care habits or make lists of self-care ideas, you are sure to find a few pages that give you inspiration.
