What do you do when you are in a creative rut?
I have a few personal strategies for getting back into the groove and finding my creative mojo again. One thing I always do is sit down with my favorite beverage, coffee, open my sketchbook, and start freely doodling with my favorite pen. If I’m not sure what to doodle I open Pinterest and look through my Doodles Board.
The next thing I do is head to Skillshare. This is my secret weapon, one of my most visited websites, how I do self-care, and a good chunk of my me-time. What I have learned on Skillshare has brought me thousands of new Instagram followers, helped me create my own courses, and taken the pages in my bullet journal from drab to fab with doodles, lettering, watercolor, and more.
Skillshare is an online learning community with thousands of classes in just about any subject you can imagine.
So what’s the deal? Instead of paying per class, Skillshare is a membership site. Once you’re a member you have full access to every single one of their classes. You pay either monthly or annually. And they also happen to be very generous with new members, offering 2-months completely free. This way you can see everything they have to offer and decide if it’s something you’ll use and enjoy.
If you want to learn DSLR Photography but don’t want to spend $300 on a premium course that you aren’t sure of, Skillshare has your back with currently over 190 classes. Want to learn to paint watercolor? There are currently more than 650 classes for that. Looking to start a blog but again, don’t want to spend hundreds on a course? There are more than 380 classes offering great advice and actionable steps to launching and promoting your blog.
But, you’re here to take your bullet journal to the next level. This time, I’ve got your back.
I’m going to share with you some of my favorite classes that I’ve taken on Skillshare.
Take Your Bullet Journal to the Next Level with Skillshare
Botanical Line Drawing
One of my all-time favorite classes, and what sparked my passion for florals was Peggy Dean’s Botanical Line Drawing Class. The length of the class is just over 75 minutes and jam-packed full of valuable tips and content. This class inspired me to continue working on my florals, come up with my own floral doodles, and finally create my 3-hour Floral Doodles Course.
The Art of Doodling
This class will help you through any creative blocks that are in your way. Cathy teaches really great strategies for getting into the creative mindset and putting your thoughts on paper. She also shares some awesome lettering styles and personified doodles.
Watercolor Tropical Leaves
When I came across this class by Peggy Dean, I was struggling with watercolor. I am always so inspired when I jump on Instagram and see a beautifully painted floral page in someone’s bullet journal. And I had tried a number of times to get my watercolor floral leaves right, with little success. I love the way Peggy explains every step, shows you how to fix mistakes, and encourages you to embrace imperfections. She’s by far one of my favorite instructors on Skillshare, and I haven’t taken a class of hers that I wouldn’t recommend.
Mandala Magic: Create Your Own Starburst Mandala
If you’re up for a bit of a creative challenge, I highly encourage you to try this class. Wendy takes you through every step of the process and breaks this complex design down into easy to do steps with practice modules for each. While I enjoy drawing more traditional mandalas, this was a fun way to challenge my creativity and skills and try something new.
Lettering Layouts: Create Beautiful Messages
Lettering Layouts by Teela Cunningham has been one of my favorite classes to date. Teela is one of Skillshare’s Top Instructors, and there’s no question how she got that title. Her instruction is very clear and easy to follow. In this class, you have the chance to learn how to hand letter quotes, starting with a simple layout, and progressing to more complex layouts. This class is just over an hour long, but what you learn in that time will make you feel like you just took a semester-long art class.
Creative Ideas to Improve Your Drawing Skills
This short class is only 18 minutes, but it will open up a whole new world of creative techniques you can use to start creating beautifully stunning and detailed art in your bullet journal. She shares some really unique and fun exercises to improve your creativity, as well as providing you with 8 worksheets to work through each video.
The Ultimate Guide to Creative Planning & Journaling
You’ve likely heard of Amanda Rach Lee on YouTube. But, did you know she also teaches a class on Skillshare? It’s no wonder why she has so many followers. Her instructional methods are wonderfully laid out and easy to follow. With this class, you’ll learn basic layouts and pages to add to your bullet journal plus lettering styles and simple doodles. She finishes off with some FAQs and a fun project for you to test out your new skills.
Again, if you are brand new to Skillshare, you can get 2-months of their premium membership for free, using my link.
