I’ve tracked a lot of habits using different habit trackers, but one thing I didn’t track until recently was my sleep. I started my sleep log on a basic level by just adding a goal to get to sleep earlier to my monthly habit tracker. Adding a dedicated bullet journal sleep tracker to track the actual hours I’m getting in was the next logical step!
If you’re looking for a bullet journal tracker for sleep, you can hand draw one and I’ll show you how to do it in this post. Or you can download our free printable sleep tracker to add to your bujo! Scroll down to the bottom of the post to get your printable page!

BULLET JOURNAL SLEEP TRACKER
If you want to keep track of your sleep habits, there are tons of creative ways to do it. I find that getting creative makes it a bit more fun to do.
Using a bullet journal sleep log has definitely encouraged me to work on my sleep habits too. By seeing my habits in a visual form, I get a bigger picture. I know getting enough quality sleep is important but I couldn’t tell you much more than that. So I looked up some benefits of getting 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
Verywell Health lists these as the top 10 health benefits of sleep:
- Keeps your heart healthy
- May help prevent cancer
- Reduces stress
- Reduces inflammation
- Makes you more alert
- Improves your memory
- May help you lose weight
- Napping makes you smarter
- May reduce your risk of depression
- Helps the body repair itself
Many of these really resonate with me so I’ve been on a mission to get enough sleep each night. Using a sleep tracker sheet has been a huge help in helping me see patterns in my sleep!
BENEFITS OF A SLEEP LOG JOURNAL
Whether you use a sleep tracker journal or single pages of free printable sleep charts, there are many benefits from tracking your sleep habits.
Using a tracker is a great way to help you identify your sleep patterns and see trends. Are there certain days of the week when you struggle to get enough sleep? Are there certain times of the month when you don’t sleep as much or as well.
You can also track your quality of sleep, your energy level, and even your mood to see if there are connections between all of it. It’s really a great window into how your sleep habits may be impacting your life!
THINGS TO TRACK WITH A SLEEP TRACKER
If you’re setting up your own sleep tracker for the first time, there are a few things to consider including in your layout:
- Total Sleep Time – You want to be able to see how many total hours of sleep you’re getting each night.
- Sleep Time Frame – Tracking when you slept can be a huge help if you’re trying to get to sleep earlier or wake up earlier. You can quickly see trends in the time you’re sleeping.
- Sleep Quality – If you track your quality of sleep or energy levels, you can see if different amounts of sleep have an impact on you.
- Notes About Things That May Have Impacted Your Sleep – Are you sick? Is something stressing you out? Did you eat a big meal close to bedtime? Making a note about things that don’t fit into your usual routine can help you see how they affect your sleep.
SLEEP TRACKER BULLET JOURNAL STEP-BY-STEP
Keeping my sleep tracker simple is the key to me actually setting it up each month and using it! If it takes too long to draw out, I’m not going to keep up with it from month to month.
So I like to use a grid chart to track my sleep.
MATERIALS USED TO CREATE MY SLEEP TRACKER PAGE
To make this page, I used some basic supplies that happen to be some of the ones I use most often!
- Paperage Dotted Notebook
- Ruler from THE RULER SET I’M OBSESSED WITH
- Sakura Pigma Micron Pens
- Zebra Mildliner Double Ended Highlighters
- Pentel Hi-Polymer Eraser
- Pentel Mechanical Pencil (you can use any pencil you prefer)
I always use a pencil to sketch my designs before using ink. It’s just a habit I started when I started journaling. Even though I still make mistakes, I always feel more prepared if I sketch my pages first!
HOW TO TRACK USING BULLET JOURNAL MONTHLY SLEEP TRACKER
There are a lot of different ways to set up your sleep log. You can track your habits weekly or monthly, depending on your preferences. You can incorporate a sleep tracker into your weekly layouts too.
In terms of design, I’ve seen people use graphs while others prefer using a calendar. I’ve even seen some cool circle-shaped sleep logs! You can also make a chart as I did!
Charts are one of the most popular ways to set up a bullet journal sleep tracker. The design I created is more minimalist in the name of saving time! Many people will write out each number of hours for each day so they can highlight them. This involves more set up time but makes tracking with your favorite highlighters super easy!
I’ve shared one of my favorite examples of this type of sleep log is from @cath_studies on Instagram!
