While we’re all looking for ways to keep ourselves occupied these days, doodling is something I’ve always found relaxing. Now I’m no professional artist by any means, but I’ve always been one to doodle in the margins of my papers. The past few weeks I’ve been doing some cacti doodles and succulents doodles.
I love them because they’re cute. I’ll be honest, that’s the number one reason I like them!
But they’re also easy to draw and you can make them as simple or as elaborate as you want! So I’m going to show you how to draw a succulent or cactus in a few easy steps!

HOW TO DRAW SUCCULENT & CACTI DOODLES
The great thing about cute succulents and cacti doodles is that they’re very forgiving when it comes to drawing. I’ve never seen a cactus or succulent that was perfectly symmetrical. They all seem to have little quirks and lots of character. So if you “make a mistake” when you’re doing succulents doodles, have no fear! I promise you can rescue your doodle!
In this post, I’ll show you how to draw some simple cacti and cute succulents. You can also get inspiration from some of my favorite doodles out there and a list of quotes that are perfect for pairing with these doodles in your bullet journal!
supplies used for cacti doodles
When I draw plant doodles, I like simple line drawings with a pop of color. For these cacti and succulents, I used colors from my Magicfly marker set. If you’ve been with me on YouTube then you know it’s one of my newest additions to my bullet journal supplies and I’ve fallen in love with them! You get 100 double-ended markers and the set really does have 100 different colors!
For these doodles I used:
- Artist’s Loft Dot Journal from Michael’s (I prefer the Artist Level 2 notebooks because they have thicker paper.)
- Magicfly 100 Dual Tip Brush Pens
If you prefer to sketch your doodles before you go in with marker, then I recommend a mechanical pencil and a hi-polymer block eraser.
HOW TO DRAW SUCCULENTS STEP BY STEP
Use this step by step process to learn how to draw some simple cacti and succulents. You can draw these in about four steps. The steps follow the same process.
- Draw a vase for the plant.
- Draw the beginning shape for the plant.
- Add details.
- Add finishing details.
Then you can add color or keep your doodles black and white!

Masha shows how cute cacti doodles can be incorporated into your bullet journal spreads. You can use them on any bujo page really because it’s so easy to draw them at a different scale. If you want to make them larger to be featured on a quote or monthly cover, that’s easy to di! Incorporating succulents into monthly and weekly layouts is easy by making them smaller.

If you think that your cactus has to be green and that feels limiting — don’t worry! The sky is the limit with these doodles and I love how they look in white on black! So don’t let color limit you. You can do everything from simple black and white to neon colors or even metallic colors!

You can also take the basic cacti and succulents and take them a step further. I like to draw mine in little flower pot type containers, but I love how these are drawn in bottles and other containers!
